Som en aktör inom IT-branschen och särskilt inom vad vi kallar för "social tech”, är det viktigt att vi tar vårt ansvar. Det innebär att vi måste arbeta förebyggande för att skydda och främja förtroendet på nätet.

Förtroendet för nyhetsmedier, offentliga myndigheter och varumärken är skadat. Tilliten vi har för varandra har minskat drastiskt och effekterna på samhället är tydliga. Vi måste göra något åt detta och en av de platser vi desperat behöver reparera är internet.

Syftet med internet var från början att det skulle vara en plattform för samarbete och framsteg, en plats som skulle föra oss närmare varandra. Så har det också varit. Men internet har samtidigt splittrat oss och sårat den medmänskliga tilliten.

Vår tids kanske mest avgörande fråga är hur vi kan återuppbygga den förlorade tilltron och förtroendet i samhället.

Som en aktör inom IT-branschen och särskilt inom vad vi kallar för "social tech” där syftet är att hjälpa människor att göra sig hörda, är det viktigt att vi tar vårt ansvar. Det innebär att vi måste arbeta förebyggande för att skydda och främja förtroendet på nätet.

Ifall misstron på nätet ökar, kommer även konsumentomdömen att lida. Om vi som omdömesplattform skulle tillåta falska omdömen, censur och manipulation skulle vi förlora det förtroende som är grundläggande för vår verksamhet. Riktiga människors faktiska upplevelser skulle tystas ner. Detta är ett enormt pris att betala, med tanke på att omdömen (efter vänner och familj) är den näst mest förtroendeingivande informationskällan för konsumenter.

Men det finns något vi kan göra.

Jag grundade Trustpilot 2007 med ambitionen att hjälpa konsumenter och företag att ge och få feedback i en transparent och offentlig miljö. Idag har vi över 90 miljoner omdömen om fler än 400 000 företag och min övertygelse är fortfarande densamma. Jag vill ha en omdömesplattform som är gratis och öppen för alla och där ingenting censureras eller döljs.

Tyvärr finns det fortfarande omdömesplattformar som inte delar denna syn, där omdömen publiceras selektivt och endast nöjda kunder får utrymme. Detta skadar förtroendet på djupet, vilket både konsumenter och företag förlorar på.

För en fungerande yttrandefrihet behöver vi skydda oss mot information som är falsk, olaglig och skadlig. Detta är något som varje omdömessajt måste jobba på. Och vi är inget undantag.

Jag inser även att bedrägeri har blivit ett allt större hot. Vi måste alltid vara steget före bedragarna genom att använda rätt teknologi och anpassa vårt arbetssätt. Jag antar denna utmaning helhjärtat.

Ett av de mest effektiva sätten att bekämpa falska omdömen på är att belysa bedrägeriförsök och öppet visa hur alla använder vår plattform. Vi kan göra mycket mer inom detta område och det kommer vi också att göra.

Med detta sagt lovar jag att genomföra sju viktiga ändringar på Trustpilots plattform. Detta är mitt förtroendelöfte.

- __Rapporterade omdömen blir kvar online__

Vem som helst får rapportera omdömen som de misstänker är falska eller strider mot riktlinjerna på vår plattform. Omdömen som rapporteras kommer numera att förbli online under tiden som vi undersöker dem. Konsumenter har sagt att de känner sig censurerade annars och vi har lyssnat på dem. Det enda undantaget till detta kommer att vara omdömen med olagligt innehåll.

- __Sökmotorer får inte ta del av omdömen om företag som strider mot våra riktlinjer__

Detta innebär att det inte längre kommer visas Trustpilot-stjärnor i sökresultaten för företag som har fått en varning av oss.

- __Vi utvecklar en helt ny teknik för bedrägerispårning__

Ny avancerad teknik kommer hjälpa oss att hitta källan till falska omdömen, omdömeslämnare och bedrägerier.

- __Ett starkare system för konsumentvarningar__

Vi bygger ett ännu starkare system för offentliga konsumentvarningar så att vi snabbt kan varna konsumenter för företag som försöker luras.

- __Vi anställer fler medarbetare för att arbeta med Content Integrity och datavetenskap__

För att sortera bort falska omdömen och bedrägerier använder vi oss av avancerad teknologi som har utvecklats av skickliga dataforskare. Detta kompletterar vi med tränade experter inom Content Integrity och bedrägeriförsök. Vi fördubblar antalet anställda och våra investeringar inom dessa områden.

- __Våra företagsprofilsidor blir ännu mer transparenta__

Vi delar med oss av ytterligare data om företagen på vår plattform så att konsumenter kan se exakt hur varje företag ber om omdömen och använder vår plattform.

- __Vi tillåter inte längre incitament för omdömen__

## Here’s how it works

The integration is easy to use. After connecting your accounts, customize the Trustpilot widget for Klaviyo newsletters. Select the review type (service or product), star-rating threshold, and keyword content that you want to display in newsletters. Drop this widget into your Klaviyo newsletters, and send. Any time email recipients open the email, they’ll see the most recent reviews that match your settings, as well as your current TrustScore.

Social proof in email marketing is easier than ever with Trustpilot’s Klaviyo integration

Trust is broken. 

It’s plain to see what declining trust in news media, public bodies, brands and each other is doing to our societies. Societal upheaval is happening in front of our eyes and one place that needs fixing (though certainly not the only one) is the Internet.

The Internet is supposed to be a platform for progress, bringing us closer together and unlocking collaboration and positive change. And it is. But it has also become a tool for dividing us and destroying trust and our relationships, too. 

Rediscovering that lost trust in all its guises is a defining issue of our times.  

As the builders of technology, and particularly ‘social’ technology that amplifies voices and viewpoints, we have to own the challenges within our realm - not duck it - which means being more proactive in protecting and promoting trust. 

Consumer reviews could become the next victim of the forces of distrust that have plagued other parts of the Internet. If we allow censorship, manipulation and fakes to stifle authentic consumer voices and cloud the truth, trust could be crushed. As reviews are the second most trusted source of consumer information (after family and friends and well ahead of advertising) that would be a huge price to pay.  

It’s not inevitable, however. 

I founded Trustpilot in 2007 to enable companies and consumers to earn trust together. How? By sharing and responding to honest feedback in a transparent public space that’s free and open to all with nothing censored or hidden. More than 90 million reviews of 400,000 sites and companies later, that’s still our guiding light. 

Where the inverse is true and consumers are carefully pre-selected to share their experience and the best of those experiences selectively published - as happens today in many feedback platforms - trust erodes over time, alienating consumers and businesses alike.

As with all forms of free speech, there must be guardrails. Illegal, obscene, fake or scam shouldn’t be allowed and, in fact, must be actively weeded out. This is an area where every review site can and must do better, including us. 

I also recognise that as the threat of deception has risen, the tools for holding abusers to account - whether it’s small infringements or systemic cheating - need to improve too. I fully accept and own that challenge. 

Perhaps the most powerful yet simple tool in our armoury is this: to shine a brighter light on review abuse through greater transparency about how all users behave on our platform.  This is where we can and will do much more. 

So I’m committing to making seven fundamental changes to the Trustpilot platform starting now until Christmas. This is my Trust Promise.

- __We’re keeping ‘flagged’ reviews online__

Any company or consumer can flag a review they believe to be fake or breaks our platform rules. Going forward those reviews will remain online while we investigate. Consumers have told us they can feel censored otherwise. Illegal content will be the only exception.


- __We’re not sharing reviews of companies that breach our guidelines with search engines__

That means the Trustpilot stars will no longer appear in search engine results for companies who have had an alert put on their page. 

- __We’re pioneering a new ‘fraud fingerprint’__

New cutting edge technologies will enhance our ability to pinpoint the source of fake reviews, reviewers and scams. 


- __We’re strengthening our ‘consumer alert’ system__

When we catch a company trying to game the system, we’ll let consumers know via a clearer and faster system of public alerts. 


- __We’re doubling our Content Integrity and Data Science teams__

We use advanced technology built by skilled data scientists to weed out fakes and abuse. We supplement that with highly trained content integrity agents and fraud investigators. We’re doubling the people and investment in these areas. 

- __We’re adding even more transparency to company pages__ 

On top of the extensive data we already share, we’re adding new data points to help consumers see exactly how every company invites reviews and uses our platform. 

- __We’ll no longer allow review incentives__ 

Despite most companies using incentives in the right way to get more feedback, there’s growing concern that any incentive could sway sentiment in a more positive direction. 

This is not an exhaustive list. Earning trust and keeping abusers at bay is a permanent task. In the past year alone, for example, we’ve removed millions of fake reviews, put a public consumer warning on 489 company profiles and led the world by showing how every company invites and flags reviews. But we need to do more - and that’s the promise I’m making today.

Corona Virus (COVID-19) - At Trustpilot, we are doing our small part to fight the spread of COVID-19 and keeping our teams healthy by temporarily closing all of our physical offices as of last week

Our business continuity plan in any situation prioritizes safety, first and foremost. Now we've moved to remote working, we can dedicate our company resources to ensuring our service to you continues as normal. We’ve prepared our people and given them all of the connectivity and tools they need to continue delivering great advice, service and support to you, even in the event of an escalation of the current situation, wherever they’re working from. 

### How and when do you expect the COVID-19 situation to affect your services? 

It's not necessarily a case of 'how and when' Coronavirus will affect our services, but 'if'. An escalation would have to be severe enough to disrupt core internet infrastructure, such as degraded Google or Amazon Web Services, or direct disruption to our  key CRM software partners’ platforms, for there to be any disruption to the services we provide to our customers. Our systems and platform team work hand-in-hand with all of our technical supply chain partners to deliver our service every day - this situation is no different. We have been given every reassurance about the resilience of these core services that we rely on and have implemented additional alerting and monitoring to our core services to ensure that we can proactively invoke mitigating actions. In the event that we have any indication otherwise, or the situation does escalate and have a direct impact on our supply chain and so us, we'll keep you updated.
